3 Things I Have Learnt From Writing This Blog (So Far)

1. Blogging Is Fun

This is probably one of the cringiest things I have written on this blog to date but honestly, it’s true. This has been by far, the most fun assignment I have had to do at university so far. I already knew that I liked blogging before this. I had written a blog before coming to university (let’s not go there…) but I forgot how much I enjoyed it.

Since starting this assignment I have fallen back in love with blogging again. I love thinking of content ideas, writing the content, designing the blog, learning about SEO. I could go on. Just having the opportunity to get used to WordPress, learn about how to use it, how to change the design, how to create content, use plugins etc… has just been a massive learning curve and really enjoyable.

2. Just Get Started

When I wrote my old blog, I didn’t show anyone or tell anyone about it for fear of imperfection. One thing that writing this blog has taught me is the importance of just getting started.

One of our assessment criteria for this assignment was to create consistent content over a period of months. If I had waited until I perfected the design of this blog, I would have never got started. With this blog therefore I have learnt to jump into blogging because you can make changes later. You can go back and change the design, the content, the name, everything, later on. It is not a case of getting it perfect right away. It is a case of learning what works and making changes as you go.

3. WordPress.org Is The Way To Go

With my old blog that I mentioned earlier, I created it using blogger. I used it because everywhere I read said that blogger is easier than WordPress. They were lying. When you are a perfectionist like me, blogger is an extremely difficult platform to get things to look the way you want them to. Working on WordPress.org for this blog has honestly shown me the light.

WordPress.org is the self-hosted version of WordPress and while it may take a little while to wrap your head around, it provides so much flexibility and choice. That period of learning how to use WordPress however is invaluable. I am really glad I have learnt how to use the platform and how to use all of its different functions, like navigating the dashboard and using plugins. This whole experience has been a massive learning curve and hopefully, extremely useful in the future.

Overall this blogging experience has been really enjoyable and I have learnt a lot of practical skills so far. I intend to keep going with this blog, update old content and create new. But for now I shall continue on this blogging journey and hopefully continue to learn lots of new things.

I would love to know something you have learnt from blogging yourself. Let me know in the comments down below and I hope you have a fantastic day.
